Municipal Elections 2026: Information for EU citizens living in Prague 2
🇪🇺 ARE YOU AN EU CITIZEN LIVING IN PRAGUE 2?
You may have the right to vote in the Czech municipal elections.
📅 WHEN?
Friday, 9 October 2026
2:00 PM – 10:00 PM
Saturday, 10 October 2026
8:00 AM – 2:00 PM
✅ WHO CAN VOTE?
You can vote if:
- you are a citizen of an EU Member State;
- you are 18 or older by 10 October 2026;
- you have registered residence in the Czech Republic;
- your registered residence is in Prague 2; and
- you are registered in the supplementary electoral register.
⚠️ Citizens of non-EU countries cannot vote in Czech municipal elections, even if they have a Czech residence permit.
⚠️ HAVE YOU REGISTERED TO VOTE?
If you are an EU citizen and have not previously been registered for Czech municipal elections, you must request entry in the supplementary electoral register.
DEADLINE
Wednesday, 7 October 2026 by 4:00 PM. Do not leave this until election day.
WHAT TO BRING
Bring:
- your valid passport or EU national ID card;
- your Czech residence document;
- information confirming your registered address in Prague 2.
The registration is handled by the Municipal District Prague 2.
🗳️ WHAT WILL YOU VOTE FOR?
In Prague 2, municipal elections concern:
1. Prague 2 Municipal District Council
(Zastupitelstvo městské části Praha 2)
2. Prague City Council
(Zastupitelstvo hlavního města Prahy)
These councils make decisions concerning the local district and the city of Prague.
📍 WHERE DO I VOTE?
- Your polling station depends on your registered address.
- You should check your assigned polling station before election day.
- At the polling station you will need to prove your identity and, as an EU citizen, your eligibility to vote.
🪪 WHAT SHOULD I TAKE WITH ME?
Take your:
- EU passport or national identity card
- and your Czech residence document.
The election commission will verify your identity and voting eligibility.
❗ IMPORTANT
Municipal elections are different from parliamentary elections.
- You cannot use a voter certificate (voličský průkaz) to vote in municipal elections.
- You must vote in the polling station where you are registered for the municipal elections.
Voting is voluntary.
- You are not required to vote.
